What? No welcome wagon? (Rat Pack)

Connor didn't like when business was left unfinished, so his first stop after landing in London was not to the flat he and his brother shared, but to the little head shop known as The Nest, where Ivy would most likely be. True, any other members of the little political group could be there (his brother included) but Connor needed Ivy to know that her kid brother was safe. He understood the concept of protecting the family. He didn't want to waste time before telling her that Oliver was safe.

It amazed him the ways in which the human mind remembered a place after being gone so long. Six months. Was that really all he'd been away? It had felt like years. He headed from the airport to Ivy's shop on foot. There was no need to involve a cab. He was in no real hurry, just needed to get it done. It was late evening before he arrived, happy to see the shop, feeling like he was finally home. Pushing open the doors, Connor let out a loud, sharp yell.

"'Ey!" He wasn't surprised to see the front of the store empty. Most of the group hung out in the basement most days. "Isn't it like you bunch of no good freeloaders to not even bother to welcome a man home? Make me want to turn right back and around without even saying hello!" The grin on his face and the laugh in the back of his throat indicated that he had no intentions of doing any such thing. "And for god's sake - can someone find me a beer?"

Re: What? No welcome wagon? (Rat Pack)

Murphy had been meandering around The Nest for days now, using the half-flat/half-war room in the basement to keep himself occupied while the others were out doing whatever it was they did best. The Rat Pack had been quiet as of late, and the nervous peace was beginning to grow weary on Murphy's shoulders. He wanted to go rid London of the filth and slime that plagued the city's streets... but it just wasn't the same without Connor.

When Ivy sent Connor out on his own for a personal task she wanted completed, it was a blow to both Murphy's ego and his confidence. The McManus twins had taken down some of the biggest hotshots in the seedy underside of the world, and when the two got together, it was like they were unstoppable. But with Connor gone, Murphy suddenly found himself second-guessing his own abilities as a vigilante and a hand of God. It was as though Connor were the missing piece to Murphy's skills and they didn't work without him.

He had been sitting in the basement skimming over a few blueprints of a storehouse that was being used by some local drug dealing thugs. Murphy had been trying to work out the best way to infiltrate the place and bring them down when a familiar voice rang from upstairs... a voice he hadn't heard in a long time. "Connor!" he yelled, jumping up so fast from the floor that the boxes he'd been sitting near toppled over. His long legs carried him up the stairs in just a few strides and when he opened the door into the shop itself, he was greeted by a very pleasant site. His lips split into a massive grin and he took a running jump to land on his brother's back, one arm wrapped around his neck while the other ruffled his brother's hair.

"Well I'll be a frickin' moneky's uncle!" He Released his twin from his hold and moved quickly in front of Connor. Murphy grabbed both of Connor's upper arms to steady him. "A'right, let me get a look a'you. It's been so long I'd almost forgotten how scrawny y'are!" He brought him forward and gave him a bone crushing hug, his strong hands patting Connor on the back a few times. His voice lowered slightly and became more sincere. "It's good t'see you." There was no joking. He was glad to have his brother back.

Re: What? No welcome wagon? (Rat Pack)

Traviata was smart enough not to forget her umbrella when she'd gone out this time; it served as both a shelter from the continuous pounding of the London rain and as a weapon if needed. She was well-prepared. The seedy spot where she'd had the run in with the three bastards a couple of weeks ago was one she was often close to, and she had no idea if she'd come across them again. She'd given them enough of a beating for blokes like that to want revenge, so she was constantly on her guard. Lucky for her, it wasn't hard to hear if someone happened to be sneaking around.

She practically busted the door down, muttering curses at the acid rain coming down from the smog-filled London sky. Each word of her spat with the weather was in an angry, quick Italian, so loud in her own ears that until she raised her head, she had no idea that anyone else was even in the room. Murphy, she saw, and felt her stomach bubble up a bit for a moment... and then, the other man. All too familiar and far too long gone, Traviata squealed in delight as she ran up like the little kitten she was and jumped on both of them.

"Well, butter my arse and call me baguette!" she exclaimed, smooching his face sufficiently. "Connor!" Traviata brushed against Murphy a bit in suffocating his brother with affection, but whether or not it was purposeful was a mystery, even to her. "How have you been? Glad to have you back!" she began to spout questions a-plenty... not realizing that each of them were increasingly quicker in their exit from her mouth and decreasingly English.

Connor returned Murphy's hug with just as much fervor - perhaps a bit more. "Ain't scrawny! Just in comparison to you, doughboy." Connor gave Murphy a playful punch to the gut. He ruffled Murphy's hair and pulled him in for another hug just as Traviata was walking in. He didn't release his brother when he saw her, but let out a low whistle. "Me-ow! D'you see what the cat dragged in, my boy? Can't tell me this is the same pretty kitty I left behind." He let go of Murphy and began to laugh as Travi unleashed a thousand questions in increasing Italian at him.

"Basta, prima bella! Basta!" He pulled her close and kissed each of her cheeks, then a peck on the lips for good luck. "Dolce come il miele." He winked at her and looped an arm around her back, turning to Murphy again. "Where's Minnie? Don't tell me I picked the one day she called in sick." He looked around, but saw no signs of Ivy.

Re: What? No welcome wagon? (Rat Pack)

Murphy's smile only seemed to widen when Traviata sauntered into the shop like she often would. She had an umbrella this time, and it cause Murphy's mind to fall back into it's place in the gutters and remember what happened the last time it had rained... When Connor whistled at seeing Traviata, Murphy slung one arm around his brother's neck, tugging him close and giving the woman a suspiciously playful look as he rubbed his jaw. "Y'be careful o'that one, Connor. She's more than just bark... got quite a bite too." His smile was lazy, but the look that he gave Traviata said otherwise, and his grin turned wicked.

Connor released him and moved to answer the slew of questions that Traviata had unleashed at once. While she had his brother distracted, Murphy moved to where the counter and cash register for the small shop were and hopped up to sit himself on top of it. The place seemed somehow much more inviting with his twin back in London, and Murphy would have been lying if he'd said he wasn't glad to have Connor back. The two had always been inseparable, and always shared everything... well, almost everything. When Connor slung an arm around Traviata's waist and pulled her close to him, Murphy felt a familiar twinge of jealousy and his smile faltered a little bit. He shifted with his legs dangling over the side of the counter and sat up a little straighter, scrubbing his jaw in habit as he often did when distracted.

"'Dunno. I haven't heard from her all day. I was in here t'day for m'own business, no word from th'girl yet."

Re: What? No welcome wagon? (Rat Pack)

She pecked Connor's cheeks back in return, but was a bit hesitant to return the lip-kiss. It was feather light, and traditional for luck - but something strange washed over her that made her think twice about it. She simply leaned in for a moment and offered him a smile, chuckling at his pleas for her to slow down. Traviata couldn't help that she was excitable. She looped her arm back around Connor as well and gave him a gentle, sisterly squeeze. Her eyes glinted mischievously at the look Murphy gave her, and she returned it. A small smirk tugged at her lips that only the man she'd taken as a lover would recognize - knowing, almost devilish.

It was almost like she could sense Murphy's jealousy, however - and she could tell that his smile had faded a little. Her eyes moved to lock with his, as if to reassure him somehow, and she smiled a bit more warmly. Less mischief, more tenderness. Traviata's brows arched at the mention of Ivy. She hadn't seen the little jittery woman for quite some time - and Murphy was likely to have a better answer than she did. As he spoke, however, it seemed that such was not the case.

Giving Connor another squeeze, she moved away from him and made herself rather comfortable leaning against a wall. She dug in her pockets for a cigarette, bringing it to her lips and lighting the thing as if it were an art. "You've probably seen her more than I have," she nodded toward Murphy, snapping her lighter shut and taking a long drag. Exhaling, she nodded back toward Connor, her free arm folded across her chest, under the loosely dangling arm that held her cigarette. "God only knows what she's up to."

Re: What? No welcome wagon? (Rat Pack)

((OOC - playing both Ivy and Connor here because it's easier, haha))

"Vy must we assume I am 'up' to anything?" Ivy appeared from her office, carrying a torn piece of paper. "I vas simply looking for zis month's inventory." She held up the battered paper, "And I found it." Placing it on the counter, she smiled and walked over to Connor, kissing him on both cheeks and hugging him close. When she pulled back, her eyes searched his, the question lingering. "My Oliver?"

Connor smiled reassuringly. "Safe with his contacts in Australia. Saw him off on the plane m'self." He kissed Ivy's forehead and walked over to the counter where his brother sat, leaning hard against it. He glanced between Murphy and Traviata, letting his gaze fall and lock with Murphy's. No words were necessary. Connor simply wanted his brother to be aware that he saw something was up and that he expected an explanation later.

"Zis is just vonderful! All zafe and zound - and with perfect timing." Ivy had a wicked grin that spread across her face. "I have zie perfect velcome home gift for you, Connor. I-"

"Hold on there, Minnie." Connor interrupted. "Now, I've seen a lot of things since I've been gone and I want to make a request." He paused and Ivy nodded for him to continue. "I know you don't know much about the magical world, Ivy, but the rest of us grew up in it." He hoped his brother would appreciate being included in that. Connor had never seen Murphy's squib nature as anything worth excluding him from the magical world. "And we go after bad people, right? Well, there's a lot of bad witches and wizards out there. I say we start going after them."

Re: What? No welcome wagon? (Rat Pack)

Murphy jumped slightly when Ivy spoke up from behind them, and spun in his seat on the counter to give her an incredulous look. He waved a finger at her accusingly as she walked out from around the counter and and over to his brother. "Where did you come from you sneaky li'l rodent?" He hopped down from his spot on the counter top and opted to lean against it instead. "I've been here all day in that filthy basement lookin' f'shit! Didn't even hear ya sneak in, love."

Murphs caught Connor's questioning glance and raised a brow at his brother's glare. Murphy simply shrugged his shoulders lightly and gave him a wicked 'I dunno what you're talking about' type of grin before snagging Traviata by the wrist and pulling her over to lean against the counter beside him. He watched the private conversation between Ivy and Connor and leaned over to Traviata to mutter in her ear "Secrets, secrets... tsk tsk." He stifled a chuckle when Connor suddenly became all business. Murphs crossed his arms across his chest and straightened up to listen to his brother. It only took a few seconds to process what Connor had been saying. "Death Eaters," he muttered more to himself than anyone. "Christ, why hadn't I thought of that before! Connor, we'd be right sittin' ducks without ya!"

Re: What? No welcome wagon? (Rat Pack)

Traviata grinned as Ivy suddenly made her way into the room. "Because you're always up to somethin', Mousie," she winked. Ivy and Connor were closer than she and Ivy were - and he'd been absent for some time. She made no moves further, simply observed. She made note to listen, if only a little bit from time to time. Curiosity killed the cat, as it were; she just couldn't help eavesdropping, particularly when it involved this little group of friends she'd grown close to over the years. She silently wondered if they would ever be able to meet Ivy's little brother, but it wasn't her business. It would happen if it was meant to.

What was even more interesting to Traviata was the way that Connor's eyes darted between herself and Murphy. A slight smirk curled at her lips and an eyebrow shot up as she noted that his gaze fell upon his twin instead of her. She knew that eye-lock all too well. She and Eliana had done the same thing when a message needed to be conveyed without words. She looked toward Murphy as his hand closed around her wrist, chuckling silently as her eyes met his. She settled against the counter next to him, subtly dragging her nails along his arm for a moment or two as her own arm came up to fold over her chest. She tried her best to hide a shudder as his voice came low in her ear. The conversation wasn't one of any nature that should make her do so, but the way he talked made it difficult to keep the goosebumps from happening. Turning her head toward him, she smirked, "Yea, but it's not like they're the only ones," she whispered back with a wink.

Her fingers drummed along the flesh of each opposite arm, her head tilting inquisitively as the twins spoke. There had been an exceedingly large amount of Death Eater activity lately, starting in February and popping up more progressively as time continued. Traviata tended to stay out of the way of the dark forces, and of the Ministry. It wasn't her place, and so long as she lay low, she wasn't affected by it all. But in reality, they all were. She knew that. And she knew that Murphy and Connor were so passionate in their plight that they wouldn't likely let the chance go to do some good. Traviata wouldn't soon abandon them in that; particularly not Murphy.

"They've been coming out of hiding more and more lately," she nodded, following Murphy in his train of thought without so much as skipping a bit. "Connor makes a good point. There's dirt everywhere - not just in the general society of the world. These guys are bad news... And it doesn't much look like the Ministry's having any luck with them. But that's what Death Eaters expect - the Ministry. They don't expect separate entities." Traviata's eyes darkened for a moment as strange voices began to swirl around her head, in her ears. She tried her best to repress them until a later time, when she could be alone. She didn't need to be having a vision now.

Again, playing Ivy and Connor here

Ivy wagged a finger at Murphy, "If I lose all of my zecrets, zen what use would you have for me, hmm?" She winked at him before leaning back on her heels to take in Connor's suggestion. "I do not know. Zie bad ones, zeese... Death Eaters," She nodded to Murphy and Travi for giving her the words. "I know nothing of zem. How can I fight an opponent I know nothing about!" She threw her arms in the air and wandered around the counter to fuss with something.

Connor groaned and let his head fall back to look at the ceiling. "Ivy!" He whirled around and followed her behind the counter, pining one arm on either side of her, gripping the counter and forcing her to look at him. "Y'trusted me with your brother, but y'won't trust me with this?" Ivy opened her mouth to protest, Connor interrupted. "They won't even see us." Connor threw a look over his shoulder to his twin. "We're just that good." He released the counter and walked briskly to place his hands on Murphy and Traviata's shoulders, respectively. "Y've seen it. I know you have. I've been there too."

Ivy tapped her fingers against her arm, head tilted slightly. "I zend you away for one little errand and you come back with more passion zan I've zeen in you in all zie time I've know you." She sighed. "Tell me what you can of zem." Defeated, she crossed her arms over her chest.
