Home Brewing Today!

While home brewing was once specific to the Appalachian Mountains, people all over the United States have begun to pick up this hobby for the culinary aspects of it. From self-proclaimed “Whiskey Geeks” to people who continue to Moonshine in the mountains, home brewing still holds a significant place in our world today.  It is not uncommon to find shops that allow you to brew your own wine or beer in the United States. Many of these shops offer a wide variety of recipes, as well as customized labels to make your alcohol your own.

Thanks to President Jimmy Carter, we are no longer prohibited from making our own alcohol at home. While some alcohol types require a permit to make or sell, we are still given the right as Americans to create our own drinkable delicacies and preserve history through home brewing. The advancements in communications in the past decade have lead to the building of proper stills. Education of home brewing has helped to demote the dangerous practices and myths that once took the lives of hundreds during the times of prohibition. Science has shown us time and again that use of common sense can prevent dangerous explosions of home distilleries. While it is true that these dangerous problems are still occurring in other countries, America has yet to see a death specifically from making alcohol at home this year.

Man has always sought out new tastes, and making your own liquor at home can help satisfy that curiosity. We are by nature very intelligent and curious, and making alcohol at home can provide a type of learning and feeling of achievement, just like any other hobby.
